Prescribing Information.
Objective:This randomized, double-blind trial evaluated the efficacy of quetiapine (Seroquel; Elocon) on clinical symptoms and quality of life in adult patients with schizophrenia. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either quetiapine (2.5 mg) or placebo. The primary outcome measure was change from baseline in the global scale score of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. Secondary endpoints included change from baseline to 1, 3 and 5 weeks, and to 1, 2 and 3 weeks. At 1, 2 and 3 weeks, patients were also randomized to receive quetiapine (2.5 mg) or placebo for 8 weeks. At the 1-week end, the primary outcome was change from baseline in the global scale score of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). Secondary endpoints included change from baseline to 1, 3 and 5 weeks and to 1, 2 and 3 weeks. A total of 984 patients (mean age = 62.9 years; range 18–86 years) were treated with either quetiapine (2.5 mg) or placebo. The primary end point was improvement from baseline in the global scale score of the HDRS, measured by the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression. Secondary end points included change from baseline to 1, 3 and 5 weeks. At the 2-week end, the primary end point was change from baseline in the global scale score of the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, measured by the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, measured by the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression. Secondary end point data were collected from 984 patients. At 1, 2 and 3 weeks, patients were also randomized to quetiapine (2.5 mg) or placebo for 8 weeks. Primary end point data were collected from 984 patients. Placebo-controlled trials were conducted in 746 patients. Patients were monitored for adverse events during treatment and were followed up at 1, 2 and 3 weeks, 4, 8 and 12 months. Secondary end points included change from baseline to 1, 3 and 5 weeks, and to 1, 2 and 3 weeks. Treatment effects were analyzed using analysis of covariance. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05.
